Simple Tips on Using the Home Plumbing Tools

Home Plumbing tools can be highly useful for performing simple repair and maintenance tasks. You could fix a leak, tighten a valve, weld a crack, or replace a damaged part. Most of the home tools are mechanical, while a few of them could be electrical. It is very important for you to have an understanding of the design and operation of the tools. In my blog, I have listed a few of the most important tools, which you may find useful.

Vise Grip Pliers

Vise grip pliers are useful for fitting and removing water pipe connectors, valves, elbows, traps, TEEs, and other piping fittings. You may have to use three types of pliers, namely the slip-joint, water-pump, and locking types. Of course, there are many more types which you may find useful for bathroom and other plumbing applications.

The Vise grip plier has a large jaw which holds the objects like pipes and valves. Adjusting screws can be used for tightening or loosening the grip. Then you can hold the two handles and perform the operation of fitting or removal. Make sure you rotate in the right direction as specified in the fitment manual.

Caulking Gun

You can use the caulking gun to fill any kind of cracks, gaps, and other risky void spaces within the plumbing works. It is flexible and easy to operate. The filler is called the caulk. You have to fill it into the gun and push it into the gaps using pressure. Latex and silicon are the two commonly used fillers. You can use it on metal, glass, concrete or any other type of structural objects.

Pipe Cutters

Cutting of pipes is a complex task when they are located in narrow spaces with hard surroundings. You can’t use hammers and other bigger size tools. But you can find it easy with the semi-circle shaped cutters. You can mount them onto any type of handle and use with ease. You can cut pipes as narrow as 5mm diameter located within narrow spaces. You can perform a precision cutting job to the level you want at an angle of your preference.

Piper Benders

Pipe bending can make it pass through curves and corners without having to use external connectors or T-joints. For example, you can use a single pipe from the kitchen inlet to the faucet. The layout helps you to save on plumbing repair costs. It will also eliminate the stress points within the plumbing pipes.

Claw Hammer

One part of the claw hammer is useful for driving in nails, while the other end is for the nail removal. It has a long steel hand with rubber handle. You will find the usage to be very easy and useful.

Cordless Drill

You may use it for driving in screws into the wood, concrete, and other hard surfaces. You can also use it for driving holes with multiple types of turns within the screws. Similarly, there are many other tools, which can help you to perform DIY home plumbing tasks.

Importance of Kitchen Plumbing for Your Home

Kitchen is an important part of your home. It is the place of food preparation, family meeting, chatting, and sharing of the day’s experience with each other. You want the place to be comfortable, hygienic, and healthy. You might have even given top priority to the kitchen interior designs and colors. Surely you love to keep the designs intact for many years into the future, right?

Kitchen Water Plumbing

The basic kitchen plumbing fixtures are the faucet, dishwasher, water dispenser, water heater, and the radiant floor heating system. Drainage plumbing consists of the sink as the main outlet. You may connect all the other outlets to the sink pipe.

Water Faucets

Pipes to the faucets bring fresh drinking and cooking water to your kitchen. Cold water pipes connect to the main water supply. Hot water pipes connect to the main water boiler or a heater in the kitchen. For cold water, you may use PVC or PE pipes. They are naturally rust and corrosion resistant. They are also resistant to freezing during winter. According to homeowners, these pipes are easy to maintain, replace and repair. They are also economical compared to the other materials like steel, copper or bronze.

For the hot water pipes, you may need steel or copper pipes with PVC insulation. PVC preserves the heat within the pipes. It also protects the metal from exposure to damages. It is also a protective layer from the water heater for your family members.

Water Dispenser

The water dispenser pipe is mostly made of copper or steel. It is due to the hygienic and rust free structure. You may connect the pipe through the ice-maker to keep the water cold. So, the pipe from the icemaker to the dispenser should be resistant to freezing. The cold water has to flow without getting warm or hot. You may install a steel pipe with PVC insulation coating.

Dishwasher

You may connect cold and hot water pipes to the dishwasher. The distance between the two pipes can act as the insulation layer. You have to ensure the water inlet can be controlled by independent valves. They should have accurate control over pressure and flow rate. The connection unit should be preferably outside the kitchen. So, you can connect to the hot water outlet from the main boiler. Besides water connection, you should also consider the power supply to the dishwasher which has to remain insulated from the water pipes.

Kitchen Drain Plumbing

Drain plumbing in the kitchen comes from the dishwasher, sink, washbasin, steam heater, and others. You can connect a sink-crusher for crushing all the solid food wastes flowing from the main kitchen sink. It is a good way of keeping the drain free from clogging.

It is a good practice to keep the drain connections of each appliance independent of each other. So, you don’t end of disturbing the dishwasher water pipe, when the sink drain has a problem. All of them have to connect to the main drain pipe which in turn connects to the municipal drain or the septic tank installed outside your home.
