Kitchen is an important part of your home. It is the place of food preparation, family meeting, chatting, and sharing of the day’s experience with each other. You want the place to be comfortable, hygienic, and healthy. You might have even given top priority to the kitchen interior designs and colors. Surely you love to keep the designs intact for many years into the future, right?
Kitchen Water Plumbing
The basic kitchen plumbing fixtures are the faucet, dishwasher, water dispenser, water heater, and the radiant floor heating system. Drainage plumbing consists of the sink as the main outlet. You may connect all the other outlets to the sink pipe.
Pipes to the faucets bring fresh drinking and cooking water to your kitchen. Cold water pipes connect to the main water supply. Hot water pipes connect to the main water boiler or a heater in the kitchen. For cold water, you may use PVC or PE pipes. They are naturally rust and corrosion resistant. They are also resistant to freezing during winter. According to homeowners, these pipes are easy to maintain, replace and repair. They are also economical compared to the other materials like steel, copper or bronze.
For the hot water pipes, you may need steel or copper pipes with PVC insulation. PVC preserves the heat within the pipes. It also protects the metal from exposure to damages. It is also a protective layer from the water heater for your family members.
The water dispenser pipe is mostly made of copper or steel. It is due to the hygienic and rust free structure. You may connect the pipe through the ice-maker to keep the water cold. So, the pipe from the icemaker to the dispenser should be resistant to freezing. The cold water has to flow without getting warm or hot. You may install a steel pipe with PVC insulation coating.
You may connect cold and hot water pipes to the dishwasher. The distance between the two pipes can act as the insulation layer. You have to ensure the water inlet can be controlled by independent valves. They should have accurate control over pressure and flow rate. The connection unit should be preferably outside the kitchen. So, you can connect to the hot water outlet from the main boiler. Besides water connection, you should also consider the power supply to the dishwasher which has to remain insulated from the water pipes.
Kitchen Drain Plumbing
Drain plumbing in the kitchen comes from the dishwasher, sink, washbasin, steam heater, and others. You can connect a sink-crusher for crushing all the solid food wastes flowing from the main kitchen sink. It is a good way of keeping the drain free from clogging.
It is a good practice to keep the drain connections of each appliance independent of each other. So, you don’t end of disturbing the dishwasher water pipe, when the sink drain has a problem. All of them have to connect to the main drain pipe which in turn connects to the municipal drain or the septic tank installed outside your home.
